	PRESS REPORT Seminar on “Opportunity for Weaving Industry in the Emerging Textile Market” 19th December 2009, at Hotel Fortune Park Galaxy, GIDC, N.H.No.8, Vapi (Gujarat)


	The Textile Association (India), Mumbai Unit organized a One Day Seminar on "Opportunity for Weaving Industry in the Emerging Textile Market” in Vapi on December 19, 2009.


	Mr. C. Bose, President, TAI, Mumbai Unit welcomed the Chief Guest Mr. A. B. Joshi, Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, Guest of Honour Mr. S. N. Kuchhal, Director-Operations, Creative Garments and Mr. Ajay C. Kapadia, President, Umargam Industries Association, speakers and delegates.


	Mr. Haresh B. Parekh, Jt. Hon. Gen. Secretary, TAI and Convener of the seminar gave the brief of the event. He said that TAI, Mumbai Unit is organizing seminar at Vapi consecutively for 2 years because of the active participation from the delegates. He emphasized that the Textile industry should take advantages of the various benefits announced by the central Govt. and the State Govt.


	Mr. S. N. Kuchhal, Director-Operations, Creative Garments while addressing the delegates said that the industry needs to gear up to meet the needs of the trade in terms of quality of the products apart from meeting the design requirements. He emphasized on the effluent treatment plants in and around Vapi and Tarapur and suggested Govt. to provide centralized ETO with proper guidance.


	Mr. Ajay C. Kapadia, President, Umargam Industries Association emphasized on the importance of men power development and training of the workers have inherent problems in terms of training facilities and trainers. He requested Govt. of Gujarat to rationalized the electricity tariff as compared to the neighboring state of Maharashtra.


	Mr. A. B. Joshi, Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India in his inaugural address said that the recent studies have indicated that the industry growth is going to be very positive and the industry should lake this positive note for the development and expansion. He also highlighted the initiatives taken by the government and the response of the industry is very proactive for a significant growth. He announced the Ministry of Textiles is planning additional textile sectors apart from existing clusters at Ichalkaranji (Maharashtra) and Palladam near Tirupur. Three additional clusters are coming up at Bhilwara in Rajasthan, Bhiwandi in Maharashtra and Surat in Gujarat. Mr. Joshi said the upcoming cluster in Surat is particularly concentrated in Manufacturing Geo textiles and allied products. He also announced that the Govt. is ready to extend all the financial and technical help to the industry.


	In all, there were 8 technical papers presented during the seminar. Mr. J. B. Purohit, Sr. Manager, PL-Sizing and Mr. Dhananjay Bakshi, Sr. Manager-Sizing, BU Textiles, Clariant Chemicals (India) Ltd. presented the paper on Sizing Chemicals of New Generation. The authors discussed the new developments made in the sizing chemicals and the potential advantages of them. Mr. Rajesh Dwivedi, CRM, EXilant Technologies made presentation on gaining competitive advantages through Information Technologies. Author narrated the importance of ERP techniques and the advantages to achieve the profits. Mr. Rajendra Ghatge, Dy. General Manager and Mr. Navin Agrawal, Dy. General Manager, A. T. E. Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. Automation in warp preparation for weaving process. The authors highlighted the developments of the warping and other preparatory in terms of the machineries for the preparatory processes. Mr. Sandeep Devalekar, General Manager-Sales, Dornier Machinery India Pvt. Ltd. made the presentation on Canvas – A feasible technical textile project. He discussed on the possibilities and potential of high tech weaving machineries especially with regards to Dornier Looms At the end, he presented a model project proposal for the manufacture of Canvas cloth using Dornier looms. Ms. Meghna Udgire, Consultant- GTZ Proklima, (National CTC Phase-out Plan) made the presentation on Selection and safe use of alternatives to CTC. While narrating the impact of ozone depleting substances and the efforts made by GTZ as project partner with Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India, the author left a positive note on alternatives to carbon tetra chloride available for the industry for effective stain removal from 1st January 2010. Mr. H. M. Sharma, Sr. Technologist (Engg.) BTRA explained about Energy Efficiency in Textile Industry. The speaker discussed on the issues on energy conservation in textile Industry. One of the important step is to have energy audit done followed by necessary course correction to save energy. Five case studies were presented by the speaker to bring home energy conservation a reality in the industry. Mr. A. N. Shah, G.M. & Joint Commissioner of Industries, District Industrial Center, Govt. of Gujarat made the presentation on Govt. Policies & Strategies for Textile Industry / Industrial Policy 2009. It was noted that a number of schemes are complimentary to the one provided by Government of India. He emphasized that technical textile sector and HRD sector related to Textile is given special attention by Gujarat government. Dr. M. K. Talukdar, Technical Consultant, Kusumgar Corporate presented the paper on Contribution of Indian Weaving Industry in Global Competitiveness. Prof. Talukdar described the importance of modernization for production of technical textiles and also to be competitive in the international market. The last session began with Panel Discussion, which was moderated by Dr. G. S. Nadiger & Mr. Sharad Tandon. The panel comprised the speakers who presented their papers in the seminar. There was good interaction between participants, who posed many questions to panel members and same were answered very promptly by the panel members. It was a very interesting and memorable session. The topics of interest were HRD, Modernization and Technical Textiles. The delegates were attentative till the last session to take advantage of the planery session. The organizers of the seminar were happy to note that the objectives of the seminar are fully achieved. The Seminar was grand success and was attended by over 200 participants. At the end, Mr. Mantri, Hon. Secretary of Mumbai Unit proposed a vote of the thanks.
