He was awarded Direct FTA (Fellow of Textile Association) and a Service Memento of The Textile Association (India) for the year 2009, which was conferred on him in the All India Textile Conference held at Indore on 24th January 2010.
His Public Relation skills were truly marvelous and that in fact helped the Textile Association to nurture and sustain the support. Though he was a technical expert from the field of Textile he had tremendous knowledge of accounts. His suggestions took the balance sheet of Mumbai Unit to the glory.
Mr. S. M. Dalal was B.Text from V.J.T.I., Mumbai University. After having worked in reputed textile mills in Mumbai viz. Morarjee Textiles Ltd., Mafatlal Industries Ltd., Finlay Group of Mills at various positions for a period of around 6 years, he joined Bombay Textile Research Association (BTRA), Mumbai in 1979. Such a dynamic personality surrendered to a massive heart attack when he was on his way to his office, BTRA and left all alone to the heavenly abode on 4th September. Shri S. M. Dalal a man of the masses who truly had a special place in the hearts of many Textile Professionals is no more with us but his memories will always inspire us in the years to come. By the sad & sudden demise of Mr. Dalal, The TAI has lost a very important Pillar of Strength.
We all at TAI offer our condolences to the members of his family and pray the Almighty to bestow Everlasting peace to his soul.
The Textile Association India has lost its star player who played an uninterrupted inning of dedicated service to its development since 1985. Although Mr. Pawar, did not take up any position on the Central Office, he was one of the key functionaries of this important Organization of Textile Professionals. Many of the Governing Councils Meetings, Election of National Presidents and almost all the All India Textile Conferences where in Mr. Pawar made his presence felt.
Since 1985, he took up as the Hon. Secretary of Mumbai Unit of The Textile Association (India), which is considered to be main back bone of Textile Association (India), and it is this Unit under the guidance of his able stewardship, which grew strength to strength. The activities of Mumbai Unit increased enormously and so also its reserves. Today Mumbai Unit being financially quite sound, a lot of credit goes to Mr. Pawar. Almost every month there has been some activity held by Mumbai Unit and thus Textile Professionals enjoyed these meetings which gave them the opportunity to get enlightened on various subjects. Mr. Pawar served TAI, Mumbai Unit as its Governing Council member since 1985. He also served Mumbai Unit as Jt. Hon. Treasurer during 1974-75 and Jt. Hon. Secretary during 1975-79.
Mr. Pawar was instrumental in enabling Mumbai Unit to bag best Unit Trophy on a number of occasions. It was under his leadership the Membership drive was accelerated and it increased almost by two fold. Such a phenomenal increase in membership was observed even when Textile Mills were not doing that well in Mumbai region. Mumbai Unit was able to organize three International Conferences and it is because of special qualities Mr. Pawar possessed, that best of Industrialists and academicians as well as highest Government officials became very friendly with him. His Public Relation skills were truly marvelous.
Mr. Pawar breathed TAI every minute. He was also publisher for Journal of Textile Association and thus was in touch with the industry for collecting advertisements from them for the Journal. He in fact played an important role of getting JTA financially self sufficient by generating revenue through the advertisements.
He was able to establish Auditorium Fund and was dreaming to build an independent Auditorium in Mumbai in TAI ,Dadar Complex. His latest dream project was to develop the Shivaji Park Property of TAI.
A man who came from humble family, though not highly qualified, but reached to such an height where he could, converse with CEOs, and Top Officials with equal ease and the secret behind all this was his extreme level of adaptability, flexibility and ability to be always in learning mode.
He was able to maintain extremely well, the good relationship with the industry and that in fact helped the Textile Association to nurture and sustain the support.
Such a star, had received the first heart attack when he was on the dais at one of the seminars being held in Suburb a few years ago. The second attack he received just about 6 months ago and since then he had curtailed his activities. And finally this man of the masses who truly had a special place in the hearts of many Textile Professionals took his Flight to the heaven on 31st May 2007, just a few hours before he was to attend Managing Committee meeting, which he had planned & discussed with all members.
By the sad demise of Mr. Pawar, The TAI has lost a very important Pillar of Strength and it will take a long time to fill this gap since this loss is irreparable.
We offer the condolences to all the members of his family and pray that God blesses his soul to rest in peace.
